A classic editorial theme for blogs, news sites, study portals and other content sites.

== Description ==

Estudo Biblico Template is a classic, responsive and translation-ready WordPress theme built for editorial publishing.

It provides navigation menus, widget areas for the front page, the featured section, the sidebar, the header and the footer, visual options in the Customizer, block editor support, threaded comments and page templates. Article widgets can show an optional excerpt with a configurable character limit, and card images use the post featured image with srcset so browsers pick the right resolution on high-density screens.

The theme registers no shortcodes, custom post types, tracking, SEO output, social sharing or any other functionality reserved for plugins. Everything it adds is presentation only, so your content stays intact if you switch themes.

== Installation ==

1. Upload the ZIP file in Appearance > Themes > Add New > Upload Theme.
2. Activate the theme.
3. Configure menus, widgets and visual options in Appearance > Customize.
4. Set the front page in Settings > Reading if you want to use a static page.

== Page templates ==

Page templates are independent on every site of a network and do not require the same slug across languages:

* Page title: the visual title or the hero title.
* Excerpt: the page introduction or the hero description.
* Featured image: the content image or the hero background.
* Content: blocks fully editable in the language of the subsite.
* Template: controls presentation only (default, full width, no title, portal, search, sitemap or Digital Bible).

== Frequently Asked Questions ==

= Does the theme require any plugin? =

No. Every feature included in the theme works with WordPress alone, without required dependencies.

= Can I keep my content when I switch themes? =

Yes. Posts, pages, comments, menus and core widgets stay in WordPress. Additional functionality should be provided by independent plugins.

= Is the theme translation ready? =

Yes. All user-facing strings are wrapped in translation functions and the theme ships a translation template in languages/estudo-biblico-template.pot, together with a Brazilian Portuguese translation.

Every image bundled with this theme was drawn by the theme author as vector
artwork, and every image visible in the screenshot is that same artwork. The
theme ships no photographs, no AI generated images, no stock imagery and no
third-party resource of any kind. Nothing is loaded from an external server.

== Upgrade Notice ==

= 1.5.69 =
The theme no longer carries content, links or images tied to the author's own website. All bundled images are now vector artwork drawn for the theme.

= 1.5.68 =
The readme now states which images were generated with an AI tool and dedicates them to the public domain, separately from the graphics drawn by the author.

= 1.5.67 =
Removes a blank link that received keyboard focus before the logo, and replaces the custom fallback menu with the WordPress page menu.

= 1.5.66 =
Fixes the search field placeholder, which stayed in English on translated sites because the translation catalogue had no message context entry.

= 1.5.65 =
The screenshot is 54% lighter with no visible quality loss, addressing the file size warning from the automated theme scan.

= 1.5.64 =
Fixes the bundled Brazilian Portuguese translation, which was not being loaded because of the file name. Sites in pt_BR were showing the English source strings.

= 1.5.63 =
Pages now render the comments template, and the theme license is declared in the wording the Theme Review handbook asks for.

= 1.5.62 =
The page template names shown in the editor are now in English, translated through the theme text domain.

= 1.5.61 =
New theme screenshot, captured from the theme itself with no third-party browser or plugin interface in it.

= 1.5.60 =
Long titles, long URLs, preformatted blocks and wide tables no longer push the page width and no longer create a horizontal scrollbar on desktop. The readme and every source string are now in English, with a translation template and a Brazilian Portuguese translation included. Customizer CSS moved to wp_add_inline_style().

= 1.5.55 =
Fixes sidebar and footer list thumbnails, which kept the narrow desktop column size after stacking to full width on mobile.

= 1.5.54 =
Fixes inflated typography and tiny thumbnails in the article widgets on mobile, adds a character-limited excerpt to the cards, removes the last plugin coupling and enqueues the main stylesheet.

== Changelog ==

= 1.5.69 =
* Removes every remaining piece of content tied to the author's own website. The footer no longer hard-codes a Resources and a Help column with links to pages that exist only on that site, and the three hard-coded slugs they pointed at are gone; both footer columns are now rendered only when a menu is assigned to the matching location.
* Widget defaults no longer carry site-specific content: the default titles are generic, and the featured verse, the footer links widget and the footer text widget start empty so nothing is imposed on a new site.
* The Customizer footer quote default was an untranslated Portuguese sentence; it is now empty.
* Replaces the four bundled raster images with vector artwork drawn for the theme. The portal hero now uses assets/img/hero-bg.svg and the logo fallbacks use assets/img/logo-mark.svg. One of the removed files was not referenced anywhere.
* New screenshot: the theme rendering a page of placeholder text with a standard WordPress menu and the theme's own artwork, instead of a capture of the author's live website.
* Since no bundled image is a photograph or AI output any more, the Resources section is a single list of vector artwork under the theme license.
* The two SVG files carried a Portuguese aria-label; both are in English now.

= 1.5.68 =
* The Resources section now distinguishes the two kinds of bundled image. The brand mark, the placeholder graphic and the logo were drawn by the theme author and stay under the theme license. The hero backgrounds and every article image visible in the screenshot were generated with an AI image generation tool, so they are dedicated to the public domain under CC0 and no copyright is claimed over them.

= 1.5.67 =
* Removes a blank link before the logo. the_custom_logo() prints its own link to the home page, and the theme wrapped it in a second anchor; nested anchors are invalid, so the HTML parser split them and left a link with no visible content receiving keyboard focus. With a custom logo the theme now lets the_custom_logo() provide the link; without one it keeps its own.
* The site branding link has an explicit visible focus outline.
* Replaces the custom fallback menu with wp_page_menu(). The previous implementation hard-coded around fifty site-specific categories, built the menu markup by hand with custom term lookups and a transient cache, and could output links with an empty href when a category did not exist. The fallback is now a short wrapper around the WordPress function, returning the same markup as wp_nav_menu() so no extra CSS is needed.

= 1.5.66 =
* The translation catalogue now carries msgctxt entries. Strings declared with _x() are looked up by "context\x04text", so the search field placeholder, the only string with a context, was never found and fell back to English on translated sites.

= 1.5.65 =
* screenshot.png goes from 600 KB to 277 KB, still 1200x900. The colour depth was reduced to 5 bits per channel, which leaves a maximum error of 7/255 and is not visible at 1:1, instead of using a 256 colour palette, which introduced banding in the photographic areas.

= 1.5.64 =
* Renames the bundled translation to languages/pt_BR.po and languages/pt_BR.mo. load_theme_textdomain() looks for {locale}.mo inside the theme languages folder; the {domain}-{locale}.mo form is the plugin convention, so the translation was never loaded and pt_BR sites fell back to the English source strings.

= 1.5.63 =
* Pages and every page template now call comments_template(), so comments open on a page are rendered. Only single posts did it before.
* The style.css License header now reads "GNU General Public License v2 or later", the wording used in the Theme Review handbook.
* Conditional layout classes on the page templates are escaped with esc_attr(), and the one remaining unescaped echo, a fixed CSS selector, carries a documented phpcs:ignore.

= 1.5.62 =
* The seven page template names in the Template Name file headers are now written in English. WordPress translates these headers through the theme text domain, so they still appear in Portuguese on Brazilian Portuguese installs.

= 1.5.61 =
* New screenshot.png, captured at 1200x900 directly from the theme, without the SEO metrics bar of a browser extension that appeared in the previous capture.
* Every image in the screenshot was created by the theme author and is declared in the Resources section.

= 1.5.60 =
* All user-facing source strings are now in English, and the theme ships languages/estudo-biblico-template.pot together with a Brazilian Portuguese translation (.po and .mo).
* The readme file is now written entirely in English, and gained the theme copyright and license statement plus the license and source of every bundled image.
* Customizer-generated CSS is now attached with wp_add_inline_style() to the enqueued stylesheet, instead of being printed as a <style> tag in wp_head.
* Long titles, long URLs without spaces, preformatted blocks and wide tables no longer expand the page: the wrapping guards used to exist only inside mobile media queries, so on desktop they created a horizontal scrollbar on the whole page.
* Preformatted blocks and wide tables now scroll inside their own block instead of stretching the layout.
* Theme URI added to the style.css header.

= 1.5.59 =
* Below 760px the page containers now use `overflow: clip` on both axes instead of `overflow-x: clip`. When one axis is clip and the other is visible, the specification makes visible compute to auto: the element became a scroll container and any descendant `position: sticky` stopped working on mobile.
* Article list thumbnails in the content area now follow the screen width on mobile (34% below 760px, 36% below 420px) instead of the fixed 78px that left a tiny image next to a three-line title. The sidebar and the footer keep their own rules.

= 1.5.58 =
* Performance: site search now stops the query from the sixth page of results onward, a range crawlers walk endlessly and readers almost never reach. The limit can be adjusted with the ebst_max_search_pages filter.
* The first pages of any search, the pagination and the result count are unchanged.

= 1.5.57 =
* Performance: the inline CSS generated from the Customizer is now built once and reused from cache, refreshed whenever the Customizer is saved. The Customizer preview still rebuilds the CSS on every load.

= 1.5.56 =
* Performance: the fallback menu (used when no menu is assigned to the Primary menu location) resolves categories in two queries and caches the HTML, instead of one query per item on every request.
* Performance: card excerpts now process only the beginning of the content and are memoized per request, avoiding cleaning entire long articles to display a few dozen characters.
* Performance: the Portal template sitemap is cached for 12 hours, refreshed when content or categories change.
* Performance: searches with a single character or more than 60 characters no longer scan the database; normal terms, including two-character ones, are unchanged.

= 1.5.55 =
* Sidebar thumbnails (including the Recent with image widget) now follow the screen width below 721px, where the sidebar stacks to full width, instead of the fixed 64px to 78px inherited from the 300px desktop column.
* The same adjustment applies to the footer lists below 640px.
* Sidebar list titles get a readable size on mobile.

= 1.5.54 =
* Article widget cards can now show an optional excerpt, with a configurable limit of 60 to 320 characters, trimmed at the last whole word.
* New "Read more" link on cards with an excerpt, with an accessible name that includes the article title.
* Fixes inflated typography on Chrome/Android (font boosting) by setting text-size-adjust; titles no longer overflow the card on mobile.
* Card images now use the post featured image with srcset and sizes, instead of a resized background, improving sharpness on high-density screens.
* Article list thumbnails are no longer fixed at 96px/78px on mobile and now follow the screen width; the editorial list becomes a full-width card.
* Titles now break between words instead of mid-word, and respect a line limit.
* The front-page left margin adjustment no longer clips the beginning of titles on cards whose text sits outside the image.
* The main theme stylesheet (style.css) is now enqueued, as required by the WordPress.org guidelines.
* The "Skip to content" link target received tabindex="-1" so focus actually moves.
* Removes the last plugin coupling: archive and search excerpts no longer call pcl_contextual_excerpt and use theme functions only.
* Removes the leftover CSS of the social sharing buttons, a feature already dropped from the theme as plugin territory.
* The excerpt on archive and search cards is visible again on screens up to 560px, limited to three lines, instead of being hidden.

= 1.5.53 =
* Reusable page templates on WordPress Multisite, with no dependency on IDs or slugs for new sites.
* Title, excerpt, featured image and content now control the presentation of each page and language.
* New Portal template with an editable hero, and a new selectable template for the Digital Bible integration.
* Historic search, sitemap and Bible slugs preserved as aliases of the selectable templates.
* Template names reorganized in the editor, and the default template identified as content with sidebar.
* The default, full width and no title templates gained an editable introduction, a consistent image and responsive polish.
* The hero uses the featured image and the visual identity of each subsite, with better support for long titles and RTL.

= 1.5.52 =
* Reduces and standardizes the corner radius of cards, images and widgets for a more discreet editorial finish.
* Simplifies the widget forms and limits the number of posts to the capacity of each layout.
* Renames news layouts according to their appearance and hides legacy duplicates when they are not in use.
* Allows optional titles, avoids empty footer columns and improves the markup of list titles.
* Improves the ticker with pause on focus and pointer, respect for reduced motion, and suspension in an inactive tab.
* Enables selective refresh in the Customizer for the theme's own widgets.

= 1.5.51 =
* Removes the redundant visual title from the static front page, keeping an accessible H1 for screen readers.
* Aligns the first highlights block to the top of the sidebar and reduces the initial empty space.
* Refines cards, sidebar, navigation, search, focus states and responsive behaviour.

= 1.5.50 =
* Removes the view counter and the most accessed articles widget.
* Removes SEO metadata, structured data, social sharing and redirects.
* Removes shortcodes, plugin detection and integrations with plugin APIs.
* Keeps only editorial and presentation widgets; the featured verse becomes fully manual.
* Makes the static front page render its title, content and pagination.
