XMLMap Plugin Documentation
This documentation will help you set up and use the XMLMap plugin effectively to improve your website's SEO and user navigation.
1. Installation
Automatic Installation
- Log in to your admin panel
- Navigate to
Plugins → Add New - Upload the plugin ZIP file
- Click "Install Now"
- After installation, click "Activate"
Manual Installation
- Download the plugin ZIP file
- Extract it to your computer
- Upload the
xml-mapfolder to your/wp-content/plugins/directory - Activate the plugin through the 'Plugins' menu
2. Basic Configuration
After activation, configure the plugin at Settings → XML & HTML Sitemap
Essential Settings
- Enable XML Sitemap: Generates sitemap.xml for search engines
- Enable HTML Sitemap: Creates a user-friendly sitemap page
- Post Types: Choose which content types to include
- Update Frequency: How often the sitemap should update
3. XML Sitemaps
The plugin generates several XML sitemaps:

Tip: Submit your main sitemap URL (
yoursite.com/sitemap.xml) to Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools.
4. HTML Sitemap
Adding the HTML Sitemap to Your Site
You have two options:
- Use the shortcode
[xml_map_html]on any page - Create a new page with the "HTML Sitemap" template
Customizing the HTML Sitemap
The HTML sitemap displays:
- Pages (hierarchically organized)
- Posts (organized by category)
- Categories
- Tags
- Custom post types (if enabled)
5. Advanced Settings
Priority Settings
Configure the importance of different content types:

Change Frequency
Set how often content typically updates:
- always: Dynamic content
- daily: News sites
- weekly: Regular blogs
- monthly: Static pages
- yearly: Archive content
6. Troubleshooting
Common Issues and Solutions
Sitemap Not Updating
- Check if the plugin is properly activated
- Verify file permissions (should be 644 for files)
- Clear your cache plugin if using one
- Try regenerating the sitemap manually
404 Error on Sitemap
- Go to Settings → Permalinks
- Click "Save Changes" to flush rewrite rules
- Try accessing the sitemap again
HTML Sitemap Not Displaying
- Verify the shortcode is correctly written:
[xml_map_html] - Check if the page template is properly selected
- Ensure the post types are enabled in settings
