XMLMap Plugin Documentation

This documentation will help you set up and use the XMLMap plugin effectively to improve your website's SEO and user navigation.

1. Installation

Automatic Installation

  1. Log in to your admin panel
  2. Navigate to Plugins → Add New
  3. Upload the plugin ZIP file
  4. Click "Install Now"
  5. After installation, click "Activate"

Manual Installation

  1. Download the plugin ZIP file
  2. Extract it to your computer
  3. Upload the xml-map folder to your /wp-content/plugins/ directory
  4. Activate the plugin through the 'Plugins' menu

The plugin generates several XML sitemaps:

Categories yoursite.com/sitemap-categories.xml All categories
Tags yoursite.com/sitemap-tags.xml All tags
Tip: Submit your main sitemap URL (yoursite.com/sitemap.xml) to Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools.

4. HTML Sitemap

Adding the HTML Sitemap to Your Site

You have two options:

  1. Use the shortcode [xml_map_html] on any page
  2. Create a new page with the "HTML Sitemap" template

Common Issues and Solutions

Sitemap Not Updating

  1. Check if the plugin is properly activated
  2. Verify file permissions (should be 644 for files)
  3. Clear your cache plugin if using one
  4. Try regenerating the sitemap manually

404 Error on Sitemap

  1. Go to Settings → Permalinks
  2. Click "Save Changes" to flush rewrite rules
  3. Try accessing the sitemap again

HTML Sitemap Not Displaying

  1. Verify the shortcode is correctly written: [xml_map_html]
  2. Check if the page template is properly selected
  3. Ensure the post types are enabled in settings
