A WooCommerce sales and tax report by country — what you sold into each country and the tax you charged there, read off the orders themselves.

== Description ==

Net, tax and gross for any date range, with a row for every country you sold
into. The report a shop needs before it can fill in a VAT return.

**Every figure comes off the orders themselves.** The tax lines an order
carries record the amounts **as they were charged**. Nothing here is worked
out again from the store's current tax table — a country raises its VAT, a
rate is corrected, and a plugin that recomputes quietly restates a return
that has already been filed. This one cannot.

**A sale is reported under where the goods went**, falling back to the
billing country when there is no shipping address, which is the ordinary case
for digital goods. The fallback is **counted and named on the report** rather
than assumed, because filing under the wrong country is exactly what this
kind of plugin exists to prevent.

**Money in two currencies is not money.** Orders placed in a currency other
than the store's are left out of the totals, counted, and said out loud.

**Refunds come off.** A return is not a sale, and the tax on it is not tax
the shop owes.

= What you get =

* Net, tax and gross for any date range
* A row per country, optionally broken down by state or province
* Delivery shown separately
* No database tables, no meta, nothing written to an order, and no
  storefront code at all

= The full edition =

[Gatemi Tax Reports for WooCommerce](https://gatemi.com/plugins/tax-reports-for-woocommerce/)
is a separate plugin, sold on gatemi.com, that adds a line per country
**and tax rate** — the shape an OSS return is filed in, with the label the
order itself carries — and the country and per-rate tables as CSV downloads.

Both editions store their settings the same way, so upgrading keeps them.

== External services ==

None. This plugin makes no request anywhere.

== Frequently Asked Questions ==

= Is this tax advice? =

No. It reports what your shop charged. What you owe and where you file it is
between you and your accountant.

= What if I changed a tax rate last month? =

Nothing in an old report moves. Every figure is what the order recorded at
the time.

== Changelog ==

= 1.0.1 =
* Fixed: with the state breakdown switched on, a county or region the customer typed in full was cut to six characters — "West Yorkshire" was reported as "WEST Y". It is now kept whole.
* Changed: the plugin's menu item and screen are now called "Sales by Country", the plugin's own name.
* Changed: the two dormant-state explanations (WooCommerce missing; the full edition active) have moved from site-wide admin notices to a plain row under the plugin's own entry on the Plugins screen. Nothing is written on any other admin page.

= 1.0.0 =
* First release.
* Net, tax and gross for any date range, a row per country and optionally per state, delivery shown separately.
* Every figure read off the orders' own tax lines as they were charged; refunds taken off; orders in another currency left out of the totals and counted; orders with no shipping address reported under the billing country and counted.
* No database tables, no meta, nothing written to an order, no storefront code and no external requests.
